Testing Vacation Trip for a Creative Portfolio Redesign

I was working on a redesign for a creative portfolio site last week, and I needed a font that felt warm, approachable, and unique. The client wanted something that stood out but still felt professional. That’s when I stumbled upon Vacation Trip—a handwritten font from Script Amp that immediately caught my eye.

The first thing I noticed about Vacation Trip was how natural it looked. It had that organic, slightly imperfect feel that made it feel like it was written by hand rather than generated by a machine. This kind of personality is rare in fonts, especially in the script category, and it added a human touch to what could have been a very digital layout.

I tested it right away in the hero section of the homepage. The font worked well over a full-screen image of the client's artwork. It didn’t overpower the visuals, which was important because the background was already quite busy with texture and color. The readability was good enough for a headline, even though it wasn’t a clean sans serif typeface. It had enough contrast against the image to be legible without needing extra spacing or background overlays.

Next, I thought about where else Vacation Trip might fit. I considered using it for section headings throughout the site. The font’s friendly and inviting style made it perfect for a creative portfolio. It gave the website a personal touch that helped establish a connection with visitors right away.

One thing I always keep in mind when choosing a font is how it affects scanning behavior. People tend to skim web pages, so the visual hierarchy needs to be clear. Vacation Trip wasn’t ideal for long paragraphs of body text, but it excelled at short phrases and headlines. It worked best as a display font, which means it was great for titles, call-to-action buttons, and decorative accents.

I paired Vacation Trip with a simple sans serif font for the body copy. This kept the design balanced and ensured that the content remained easy to read. The contrast between the two fonts helped guide the user’s eye through the page and created a nice flow between different sections.

When it came to mobile responsiveness, I checked how the font rendered on smaller screens. Even though the handwriting style can sometimes be tricky on mobile, Vacation Trip handled it well. I made sure the font size was large enough to maintain clarity and used a bit more leading to prevent the letters from feeling cramped together.

Another consideration was the file format and performance. I confirmed that Vacation Trip was available as a webfont, which meant it would load quickly and work across all major browsers. It also supported multiple weights and alternates, giving me flexibility in how I used it across the site.

I also thought about commercial use. Since this was a client project, I needed to make sure the font had proper licensing. Vacation Trip came with a commercial license, which was perfect for building brand assets and publishing content online without any legal issues.

As I continued testing, I found that Vacation Trip worked well for a variety of design elements. It looked great on a boutique online store banner, a coaching website header, and even in a course sales page title. It added a sense of warmth and creativity that aligned perfectly with the client’s brand identity.

One thing I noticed was that the font’s unique style helped create a memorable visual experience. It wasn’t something you’d see everywhere, which made the website stand out from competitors. It also contributed to a more polished online brand experience by reinforcing the idea that the client was creative, thoughtful, and personable.

In the end, I decided to use Vacation Trip for all the main headings and titles on the site. It brought a level of personality that made the design feel more human and less automated. The font was versatile enough to adapt to different layouts and responsive enough to work across devices without losing its charm.

If you're looking for a font that adds character to your website without sacrificing readability, Vacation Trip is worth considering. It’s a great choice for anyone who wants to build a more engaging and visually appealing online presence.
